Second Marine Air Wing Base Command Operations Facility, Cherry Point

U.S. Navy, NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic

MCAS, Cherry Point, NC

The new base operations facility at the Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point houses both the Second Marine Air Wing and Cherry Point base command functions. The facility includes two command suites, a 3,200 SF conference center, emergency operations center, secure wing operations center, an auditorium, and state-of-the-art telecommunications systems to support extensive secure and non-secure data and voice networks. A grid-connected solar power energy system reduces energy costs for the facility and allowed it to achieve LEED Gold certification. The building was designed as an essential facility, requiring magnification factors on the normal wind and seismic loadings to ensure operational survivability after natural disasters.
