The Monrovia Embassy compound includes a new office building, maintenance and warehouse facilities, marine security guard quarters, a helicopter landing zone and office annexes. The building site is located on a rocky coastline with significant sloping elevation. Mason & Hanger’s engineering team utilized supplemental earth grounding systems in response to this challenge. Some of the LEED components include a central plant combined heat and power system, solar energy collection and an electrical power generation system. The project received LEED Gold certification from the Green Building Certification Institute.
The project was awarded an Engineering Excellence Award and the Pinnacle Award, the highest award presented by the American Council of Engineering Companies Virginia Chapter.
