Mason & Hanger had the extraordinary opportunity to represent our commitment to Civil Engineering through Kentuckiana Post - Society of American Military Engineers (KP-SAME) and our support for the education of future leaders. As pioneers in the production of next-generation, high-performance facilities, it was an honor to mentor aspiring engineers on the next chapter of their lives.
This year marked the inaugural Summer Engineering Exploration Kamp (SEEK) organized by the University of Kentucky (UK) and industry partners. As a longtime member of the UK’s Civil Engineering Advisory Council, Stephen Scott, Mason & Hanger Vice President of Government Programs, participated in an executive roundtable to discuss
the future of engineering with the campers- referred to as kampers [with a K for Kentucky]. “It was truly an honor to speak with the kampers and see the enthusiasm they have for engineering firsthand. Betterment has always been rooted in our foundational values. I’m encouraged that one day these kampers will join us in Building a More Secure World ®” stated Stephen.
Additionally, Darin Hensley, Mason & Hanger Program Manager of Military Programs, served on the kamps planning committee as part of his involvement with KP-SAME. The company’s commitment to the next generation of innovation is bolstered by supporting the involvement of our team members with industry groups such as SAME. Darin spoke with kampers about the rich history of SAME and the resources available to the kampers from SAME’s educational foundation. 
“As a UK Civil Engineering Alumni, I enjoyed this opportunity to give back to my alma mater, as the entire community works together to increase the depth of our engineering pipeline,” added Darin. “It was fitting to describe Mason & Hanger’s first project with the Louisville District (Lock & Dam #10 in 1902) while the kampers were on site to tour the existing McAlpin Lock & Dam. I look forward to seeing the kamp expand and grow next summer. I fully expect some of these kampers to apply for our SAME scholarships in the near future”.
