Potomac Annex Compound Renovations

U.S. Department of State

Washington, DC

The Potomac Annex Historic District, which includes all of the primary buildings on Potomac Annex, is listed on the DC ‘Inventory of Historic Sites’ and is eligible for listing on the National Register as a historic district. The Old Observatory is a National Historic Landmark.

The U.S. Department of State acquired these facilities for departmental office use. In order to achieve the end user’s needs, each of the buildings underwent complete renovation to provide new interior layouts, based on the tenants’ space and functional requirements. The renovations were completed in phases and included Buildings 1, 3, 4 and 5, totaling 96,000 SF. Building 2 is preserved due to its National Register status. The design was completed following NEPA and Section 106 Historic Preservation Guidelines.
