New Embassy Compound, Cotonou

U.S. Department of State

Cotonou, Benin

The new 123,784 SF embassy compound is located on an 8.8 acre site in the southern part of Cotonou. Facilities include a new office building, support facilities, facilities for the embassy community, and Marine security guard residence.

Mason & Hanger designed a number of features including a photovoltaic array, LED site lighting, water conserving plumbing fixtures, and the reuse of wastewater for irrigation. The buildings and site were designed in accordance with Department of State code and security requirements and the U.S. Green Building Certification Institute to achieve LEED Silver certification. This project required phasing of the work to allow continuous full operation of the existing American Cultural Center.
