Continuing Services, Jefferson Lab

Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility

Newport News, VA

Mason & Hanger was awarded an A-E task order contract to provide studies, conceptual design, construction support, value engineering, design development, and investigative services for the Jefferson Lab site in Newport News.

Jefferson Lab is one of 17 national laboratories funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. The lab’s primary mission is to conduct basic research of the atom’s nucleus using the lab’s unique particle accelerator, known as the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF). The projects included development of a ten-year plan and design of additional process cooling and an uninterruptible power supply for the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) computer center, design of a new building for the Environmental, Health, Safety and Quality Division, addition to the Cryogenics Test Facility and upgrades to HVAC systems. High-performance sustainable building practices, including use of renewable energy sources, reduction of water and energy consumption, day-lighting systems to supplement lighting, and high-quality indoor environments were employed.
