Mason & Hanger provided full design for Phase 2 at the Agile Chemical Facility. The construction packages included plans, specifications, cost estimates, construction schedule, and design analysis for a facility to support nitrate ester manufacturing at a European-based plant in order to produce energetic chemicals for the U.S. defense industrial base.
Mason & Hanger's scope included the design of new buildings, acid tanks, containment structures, and other supporting equipment and facilities. The design utilizes specific process for nitration to manufacture the energetic chemical. The project scope included upgrades to storage and delivery facilities for chemicals and raw materials, product manufacturing, handling, and transfer facilities, as well as waste treatment facilities.
We also prepared plans and specifications for the demolition of several of the buildings at the plant and adjacent Moser Plant. The project included renovation and replacement of the complete set of buildings used to manufacture Navy propellant materials. Our design activities included development of piping and instrumentation diagrams, piping drawings, equipment sizing and selection, process flow diagrams, safety analysis participation, value engineering, and unit operations process design calculations. The processes included equipment for bulk storage of chemicals, neutralization of acids, material transfers, heat transfer, industrial ventilation and emissions control, mixing, freeze protection, safety systems, process instrumentation and controls, nitration, sanitary construction, and remote operation and monitoring.
