Construction Progress on NASA’s New Flight Dynamics Research Facility

Mason & Hanger’s team of Architects and Engineers have been excitedly tracking the construction progress of a truly unique project in their own backyard.  Our design team recently visited the site of NASA’s new Flight Dynamics Research Facility (FDRF) at the Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia to celebrate the topping out and watch the test section being lifted in place.

The FDRF will provide researchers with a highly versatile and cost-effective vertical wind tunnel for conducting research and technology development that supports diverse NASA missions, including aeronautics research, space exploration, and science. Mason & Hanger is working on the design-build contract in partnership with BL Harbert International (BLHI) and Calspan Aero Systems Engineering, Inc. Learn more about our role here.

Earlier this summer, our interns were also able to get a tour of the site during their final weeks before classes started up again.
