Meet Mario...

Principal Architect

"Throughout my years of learning and developing, my commitment to design excellence and professional experience have formed the foundation for my current position

How did you end up in your current position?

It all started many years ago when I was a student at Tracy Joint Union High School in Tracy, California. I was introduced to Architecture through an art class and my childhood friend encouraged me to pursue the profession. Throughout my years of learning and developing, my commitment to design excellence and professional experience have formed the foundation for my current position. Last summer, Jim Gloeckner, the Director of Architecture, strategically contacted me in the interest of having my collaborative leadership talents contribute to the success of Mason & Hanger’s award winning portfolio of works.

What does your job entail?

All of the above! But seriously, I’m responsible for critical design direction for department, company, and client success. I’m a client facing representative of our firms architecture department, developing major architectural projects that significantly impact company programs and client standing. I’m also responsible for establishing and developing the firm’s design direction and vision, and serve as Architect of Record—accountable for technical sufficiency of all assigned architecture department project deliverables. My top priority is leading by example through mentoring and providing direction and guidance to less senior staff within department.

What do you love most about your job?

In addition to holistic integration of varying cultures collectively working together for a better tomorrow, the experiential element of learning by doing and knowing that my contributions are for a greater purpose, other than the obvious, another built environment.

What has changed in your industry over time?

Similar to subtle frequency of music, Architecture has always been an art of communication requiring the use of all senses. The way we communicate and interact with one another is constantly in motion, changing with time. More so, recently evident due to the current pandemic, impacting how we interact and communicate with one another.

What do you feel you do to make the world a better place through your work?

My ability to deliver safe, secure, functional, and resilient facilities that best exemplifies Mason & Hanger’s vision and core values.
