Senior, Civil Engineer
"I love the projects Mason & Hanger takes on. I get to travel to places I never would go on my own, and the projects are meaningful in that they keep America safe."
Prior to taking the position as Senior Civil Engineer, I held several positions in different engineering environments. I worked for a municipality reviewing plans for both commercial and residential developments. I also worked for contractors as an on-site project engineer. The Senior Civil Engineer position allowed me to apply my experiences and skills to lead and design projects throughout the U.S. and worldwide.
As a Senior Civil Engineer, I am responsible for the civil scope of a project. Civil engineering scope includes: site development, utility routing and sizing, grading, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control. Throughout the duration of the project, I need to communicate and coordinate with every other discipline on the project to ensure the site work supports the needs of the rest of the team. As necessary, I will work with local authorities for permitting and utility connections.
What I love most about my job is not just one thing. First, I love the projects Mason & Hanger takes on. The reason I love them so much is a) I get to travel to places I never would go on my own, b) the projects are meaningful in that they keep America a safe place to live. Lastly, the people I work with at Mason & Hanger are awesome, especially the Civil Department. We work well together and help each other through the never-ending challenges that come our way.
Computer design has changed the most over the course of my career. Civil Engineering design has not changed, but the way we present it has. I started out drafting on paper and 2D CADD, now the industry has gone to 3D modeling. So instead of designing in 2D, it is expected we design and provide 3D models for contractors to build from.
The projects we work on specifically are designed to keep Americans safe here in the U.S. and around the world. Our projects design facilities for military personnel and diplomats. Military personnel and diplomats protect us physically and promote positive foreign policy. By developing facilities that meet their mission, our work makes the world a better place to live.
