As I am coming up on five years as a member of the Virginia State Building Code Technical Review Board (TRB), it has also given me an opportunity to reflect on the critical role the Board plays in supporting public safety, regulatory consistency, and the integrity of Virginia's building code system.
Many professionals in the construction, engineering, architecture, and code enforcement industries are familiar with the Board, but its responsibilities are often less understood by those outside these fields. The TRB serves as an independent body that reviews appeals and disputes involving the application and interpretation of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code. Its work helps ensure that code requirements are administered fairly, consistently, and in accordance with their intended purpose.
As Virginia development becomes increasingly complex, the importance of thoughtful code administration becomes even more significant. The Board's decisions influence not only individual projects but also broader industry understanding of how building regulations should be applied.
Five Ways the Virginia Technical Review Board Strengthens Building Safety
