Indoor Firing Range, Asymmetric Warfare Group, Ft. A.P. Hill, VA
This project provides Soldiers with realistic and challenging concurrent training supporting initial and sustained live-fire as well as calibration of night-vision-goggles (NVG) and weapons zero prior to deployments. The geometry of the range presented an unusual challenge for airflow with ceilings sloping from 16 feet down to 12 feet above the floor at the firing line. For this application, a unique diffuser plenum wall was constructed. The mechanical system design achieves laminar flow at the firing line. Capacity is 90,000 cfm with heated supply air and the system exhausts through a bank of HEPA filters to capture lead particulates. Supply and exhaust fan systems have variable frequency drives to ensure proper airflow and range pressurization.
